FIRE DEPARTMENT 812-735-4433
911 for emergencies

The Bicknell Fire Department, located at 210 E 1st Street, is a volunteer fire department made up of several members who repeatedly sacrifice their own personal time to respond to calls for service throughout the city. In addition to responding to calls, members also meet weekly to discuss department business and attend scheduled trainings. On average, the Bicknell Fire Department responds to 400 calls for service each year. Of the current members, eight are certified Emergency Medical Responders, five hold Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification, and one is certified in fire investigation and damage assessment for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The current fire station was built in 1998 and is one of the largest stations built with grant monies in Southern Indiana. The station was dedicated on Flag Day in June of 1998 and features four double deep bays, a breathing air compressor room, fully equipped kitchen, meeting room, two office spaces, men’s and women’s shower and restroom facilities, and living quarters for a Good Samaritan EMS crew. The station houses three engines, a multi-use tanker/engine, eighty-five foot Snorkel aerial truck, and a medical response unit. In addition, the station also houses one ambulance from Good Samaritan EMS and the Mobile Emergency Operations Center for the Knox County Emergency Management Agency.
